After I’ve finished making a model train video, I like to play with the trains for a while before I put them all away and take up the tracks. In this video, I show you my idea of having fun with the trains… putting my three fastest locomotives on the layout, turning the speed control up to maximum, and letting the trains make a high speed run.
In lieu of my normal method of shooting video of the trains from multiple angles with multiple cameras, and doing lots of editing to go from camera to camera, for this video I just kept it simple: one camera, a GoPro Hero 8 black, mounted on the side of the train. It gives a very interesting point-of-view as the train travels through the layout that runs throughout my house and in to my garage. I had to keep the layout entirely indoors due to inclement weather at my house that day.
All three of the locomotives running on the main line were manufactured by MTH and purchased from Trainworld.com in New York. These are G-scale locomotives, not the tiny little HO scale trains that most American model railroads use. All three locomotives are essentially the same, just with different paint schemes and slightly different sounding horns. One of the locomotives is branded as Santa Fe, another as Amtrak, and the third is the Norfolk & Southern 911 first responders train.
