In what I can only describe as my craziest train layout yet, I set up my G-scale trains to circle my wife’s car, go through the house, out to the patio, and loop around the side yard to get back to the garage again.
The hardest part wasn’t laying the track and setting up the trains… it was convincing my wife to let me take over not only her kitchen, but also to go around (and under) her cherished car.
Featured in the video is a LGB 25554 White Pass & Yukon Route locomotive, plus some WP&YR rolling stock. You’ll also get a brief glimpse at a MTH RailKing Amtrak set.
If you look carefully at the 1: 20 point in the video, you’ll see the model train go over a magnet set in between the rails. This triggers the horn on the locomotive.
Another interesting thing in the video is the LGB 4268 stock car, featuring realistic animal sounds! That’s a somewhat rare item, and it’s funny to hear it roll past you.
I used nearly every piece of track that I owned to create this very long layout… so I’ve ordered more track so that I can build it even bigger next time! Subscribe to my YouTube channel so you don’t miss the sequel. (Assuming my wife doesn’t use her veto on my grand plans!) She did actually object when I ran two parallel sets of tracks through the kitchen when I was setting up this layout, so I had to scale it back to just one directional travel through the kitchen!
Some people find it unbelievable that my wife would let me have trains running through the whole house like that. What you have to understand is that it’s not like this all the time! I only set up the trains in the house for a little while… and then put them away again. For me, the fun is in coming up with new layouts and getting a good video of it.
This train video was shot with a DJI Osmo image-stabilized video camera.
