Trains in Trouble
The layout is featured in this months edition of Hornby Magazine!
British Railways Standard Class 4MT ‘75062’ gets into some trouble heading up Buckdale Bank with a heavily loaded nine coach train. After wheel-slipping and stalling on the incline, GWR Pannier tank 3711 is dispatched from Ponden Station to assist, banking the train from the rear.
I saw some old colour 1960s footage of these kinds of operations on the Licky Incline in Bromsgrove near Birmingham recently, so thought I’d have a go a recreating these on my layout. I’ll link the footage below, where you can see a 9F being banked by four pannier tanks! That must have been quite a sight, and fortunately, someone thought to film it!
