This is the Piko 38219 model steam train, an excellent value for a G-scale locomotive. This locomotive and tender comes in at about half the price of a LGB-brand locomotive, yet delivers excellent realistic sound and even has a working smoke generator to heighten the realism.
This model train is based on a real train from the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway in Skagway Alaska. Locomotive #52 is believed to be the first locomotive to make it over the White Pass after the completion of construction of this famous gold rush era route back in the 1800s. The actual #52 locomotive can still be seen today on display in Skagway, a popular destination for cruise ship tourists. While the real #52 is no longer operational, the WP&YRR has restored several other similar locomotives such as #69 and #73
The locomotive and tender are sold together as a set. Manufacturer’s list price is $624.99 and an excellent place to order one is Trainworld.com which sells them quite a bit less expensively at $499.99
G scale passenger cars based on the real White Pass railway cars are also available. In this video, I have the train pulling WP&YR freight cars instead.
This video is intended for adults who are interested in model trains, but children may also find it interesting. You can safely allow your kids to watch this video and they will enjoy watching the train run throughout my house for a few minutes. It’s safe, clean, family-friendly entertainment.
