After we caught L781 in East Dublin, they went to swap trains with L782, so I went off to find a bathroom. While I was in the bathroom, they got done with their work rather quickly, and L781 got on their way back to Macon. I wound-up getting out of said bathroom just after they’d passed, but thankfully, we were still able to beat them over to this crossing with a little bit of time to spare. Here we see them as they begin their trip back-up to Macon with a B32-8 leading a GP38-2 and another B32-8!
This crossing’s a rather neat one. It appears that originally, this crossing had been a mid-70s WCH install from the SCL, but in the 80s, the closer signal was knocked-down and replaced with the current one (save for the bell). The crossing appears to have then remained unchanged for several years, until the early 2000s when the far signal had its front lights replaced with the current ones and the closer signal got a WCH e-bell. Then, sometime between 2012 and 2014, the WCH e-bell here died and was replaced with the current NEG e-bell. Since then, no major changes have occured here thankfully, and hopefully none will occur here for a while. Either way though, I’m glad to have finally been able to record this crossing as not only is it a rather nice one, but I’ve also finally been able to record all of the remaining 8 inch lights on the Georgia Central!
