I race every one of my G-scale Thomas and Friends model trains to see if Toby is still my fastest locomotive. A year ago, I raced these trains against the clock to figure out who was the fastest. This time, I set up a drag-race type of train layout so that I could race them against each other side-by-side.
Percy, James, Emily, Thomas The Tank Engine, Toby, and Winston — including Sir Topham Hat — all participate in the race.
These model trains are made by Bachmann and are running on LGB brand brass track. Everything was purchased at www.trainworld.com The locomotives cost about $200 each and the cars the pull cost about $70 each. The brass track that I’m using is quite expensive, at about $7 per foot… but there are other less expensive types of track that could be used. I just prefer to use the good stuff.
Percy and Thomas are equipped with built-in DCC circuitry, but Toby, Emily, James, and Winston are strictly analog.
In the video I encourage you to leave a comment here on YouTube. Great idea, except for the fact that YouTube considers this a “made for kids” video and their policy does not allow comments on kid’s videos. Sorry about that! You can join my Facebook group at and leave a comment there instead.
