I searched the internet for model railway exhibitions, sadly most were cancelled with Covid restrictions being given as the reason in most cases. My home town exhibition was still on, it may not have been the most impressive in the past, but on this occasion the club put on their best show to date with a truly impressive array of layouts, there really was something for everyone. With less trade stands than usual there was plenty of space for model railway layouts, many displaying a wonderful sense of humour, such as Jones the Butchers van from Dad’s Army complete with rifles poking out of the roof. For lovers of whimsical narrow gauge railways there was the fairytale Rainbow Rock railway, a riot of colour with trains based on the wacky creations of cartoonist “Rowland Emitt”. The “Museum of Transport” was popular with everyone, it had opening bridges, an ambulance man giving CPR, trams, cycling cyclists, trains, operating canal boats, even the feeding chickens moved. There were a number of excellent layouts with a local theme loosely based around Southern Railway locations or railways that were planned, but never completed. Narrow Gauge modelers were catered for with some of the best model railways to be seen anywhere. Whether looking for inspiration, a new locomotive or to simply enjoying watching model trains in action, this exhibition had the lot.
