This model railway is housed in a refurbishedbuilding in Markeaton Park, Derby. The original40 ft long 00 gauge layout was donated by DerekChandley and is based on Chinley station, in Derbyshire, in the 1950’s when it had four mainlinetracks running through it. The layout has been extended and is now almost 60 ft long. The extended layout includes a canal basin serving a quarry and a fictitiousDerbyshire village with branch line terminus, goods yard and a rail-served factory.
Most of the trains are steam hauled and include such’Famous Trains’ as the Flying Scotsman, theBournemouth Belle, the Golden Arrow and theCornish Riveria Express. Trains from earlier yearsmay appear as well as more modern diesel andelectric ones. Trains from abroad also make an occasional appearance.
I have been trying to visit this model railway for a few years and have finally made it. Well worth a visit if you are in the area and only £2.50 for an adult ticket (valid all day).
