Saturday, March 16, 2013, 1: 19 PM. We were making the long trek through the Varied Industries building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds to go home from the Lawn and Garden show, when our granddaughter said, “I see a train!” We headed to the next aisle over and found the other thing besides the antique tractors that made the whole trip worth it for me. This G-scale train layout was created pretty quickly on-site by the Central Iowa Garden Railway Society ( www.cigrs.net ). Partway through the video, you can hear a pitch for the Society in general and their summer tour in particular as a member tells me about it (I didn’t catch his name). On Saturday, July 13, 5$ per car will get you into the backyards of seven members to see their layouts in action. See you there.
