Making realistic scale model buildings for model railroads is surprisingly easy. This demonstration shows how to make a miniature replica of a real full size railway shed to HO scale, N scale or OO gauge. The plans are downloaded, printed on paper, glued to cardboard, and assembled. This short video demonstration show the step-by-step process sped up. Once assembled the scale model buildings can be strengthened with the addition of some extra card pieces glued on the inside of the structure. The assembled scale model can be sprayed with a clear flat varnish (not gloss). Spraying the small railway shed with clear varnish is optional, but it will help protect the scale model building for decades to come. It is best to apply 2 or 3 light sprays of varnish rather than apply one heavy coat. Buildings placed against the backdrops of train layouts can be constructed with corflute or foam-core board. Both materials are very inexpensive to buy locally. We have separate video demonstrations showing how to make scale model background buildings on this channel and on the modelbuildings.org website. You can selected from in excess of 200 unique model building designs to download. Happy Railroading!
P.S. The downloadable plans can also be used to make structures for dioramas and school projects.
