Engineer Hall model railroad layouts update on October 3, 2021
The Layout is powered by NCE DB5 booster and NCE / SB5 Smart Booster 5-Amp System with DCC Specialties psx-4 and Tam Valley DCC Hex Frog Juicer
Tam Valley HFJ003U DCC Hex Frog Juicer (Scale=ALL) TAM-HFJ003U
For DCC systems 2 Amps to 8 Amps including NCE PowerCab. This board can be configured to use as an automatic polarity reverser for six frogs, or a reverser for one to three reversing loops, turntables, wyes, or crossings. Setup is simple, connect the input to the DCC track bus, and connect the output wires either to six frogs or rails. Two jumper controls whether the two, four or six outputs act as pairs (i.e. an auto-reverser) or independently (i.e. a pair of frog juicer). Should not be used with boosters over 10 Amps. See the Dual Frog Juicer for 10 Amp boosters.
Please note – Frog Juicers are DCC (Digital Command Control) devices ONLY. They will not work with DC or 3-rail. They will work with most all DCC systems, Lenz, Roco, NCE (including the PowerCab), Digitrax, Zymo, MRC, CVP. If you don’t see your DCC system here, don’t worry, there are just too many to list them all!
Alas, they will not work with the Bachmann EZ-DCC system or the SPROG II as they do not have enough power to reach the 1.7 Amp switching threshold. However, if you use one or our boosters then you can use frog juicers and other auto-reversers with these systems.
Peco Electrofrog Update- All Frog Juicers work with Peco electrofrog turnouts without any modification to the Peco turnout. The same applies to other power-routing turnouts (e.g. older Shinoharas). You still need to insulate the Peco electrofrog turnouts as in the instructions that come with the turnout. For a normal turnout, that mans using insulated rail joiners on the 2 rails leaving the frog.
Peco Insulfrogs do not need a frog juicer as the frog is plastic and cannot be powered.
NCE-SB5 Smart Booster 5-Amp System — Includes Power Supply
Add an SB5 Smart Booster (command station / power booster) to your Power Cab when you need more track power. The SB5 can supply 5 Amps of track power while freeing up your Power Cab for true walk around control. The SB5 accommodates up to 6 throttles plus an additional 3 cab bus accessories such as AIU, USB or Mini-panels. An internationally approved 12/13.8 volt 5 Amp power supply is included.
NCE / Power Cab DCC Starter System – North America Version — Includes P114 13.8VDC 1.35A North American Power Supply STARTER SETS
An entire DCC system in the palm of your hand! This 2 Amp system can operate up to 4 HO locomotives or 8 N scale locomotives. Provides all of the capability and ease of use that you’ve heard about in our Power Pro system at an entry level price. Installation is a snap. Hook two wires to your track and plug in the cab. You’re off and running trains!
The Power Cab kit contains: Power Cab, 7′ Power Cab Cable, PCP Power Panel, Power Supply, Pro Cab Coiled Cord, and Manual.
The replacement Power Supply for this kit is a P114 (5240221) Use of ANY other Power Supply is not recommended and will void your factory warranty.
don’t forget to use a REAL surge protector not a power strip
We highly recommend a track output Circuit Protector like the CP6
DCC Specialties 246-PSX-4 DCC Solid State Power District Circuit Breaker — 4 Block
PSX4 DCC Solid State Power District Circuit Breaker, 4 Block, 0-20 Amps/Block.*
*The PSX circuit boards are scribed and milled so you can seperate [for example] a PSX4 into four individual boards if necessary.
The PSX is designed to specifically handle low power starter systems by simply jumping pins J6-1 & J6-2 together. This applies specifically to:
NCE Power Cab
If you use AC power [Lionel, MTH, and American Flyer AC] order the PSX-AC.
All PSX Series DCC Circuit Breakers include Network Feedback, Shorted and Occupancy Status to Digitrax LocoNet, Lenz ExpressNet and NCE Cab Bus.
As delivered from the factory, the PSX-1’s trip current is 3.81 amps. You can adjust it from 1.27 amps to 17.8 amps easily via programming or jumper connections on the board
The PSX series has the most reliable operating features that protect model railroad equipment and wiring from damage during a short circuit, including fast-acting, solid-state electronics.
The Power Shields are available in 1, 2, 3, and 4 circuit-breaker models, allowing you to divide the output of a single booster into independent power districts.
The PSX circuit board is wired between the DCC system’s booster and the track bus
