Most model railroad layouts will include at least on scale model train station as part of the display. Some small rural railway stations stand in isolation with only the track, a small platform, and a few bushes scattered around, but other displays incorporate restrooms on the station platforms, newsstands, and even subway underpasses. It really depends on the real-life location that is being modeled, and whether the scaled-down replica is situated in our near a small town, medium-sized town, or larger city. The bigger and busier the train station is, the more facilities it is likely to have. A lot will also depend on the amount of room available on a model railroad layout, and whether there is sufficient space for a larger station, bigger platforms, and additional facilities.
The printable plans for this model train station and support structures can be downloaded to construct HO scale, N scale, or OO gauge model buildings. The plans can be downloaded, then printed out on paper, glued to some cardboard, and glued together. When assembled the miniature models can be further strengthened by adding additional pieces of card glued to the inside of each structure. The finished scale model can then be sprayed with a crystal clear flat varnish (definitely not gloss). This step is entirely optional, however, doing this will assist in the protection of the scale model and ensure it stays in excellent condition for decades into the future. It is recommended 2 or 3 light coats of varnish be applied, rather than a single heavy coat.
This series features 7 structures from more than 200 downloadable plans on the website. This series includes: a small country model train station, two restroom buildings, two news stands, a pedestrian underpass subway for passenger to safely get to and from the train station without crossing the tracks in front of trains, and a trackside waiting shelter for workers or passengers to use. The paper plans can be used for making N scale, OO gauge, or HO scale model railroad buildings.
