It’s been a while since I got the model trains out, so I figured it was time to do another video. This time is a little different as I didn’t just do this for my own enjoyment.
For those who don’t know, I am a big fan of the YouTuber , JimZim who is well known for model train, cruise ship, and puppy videos. I’ve lost count the number of hours I have spent watching Jim’s videos of his G scale trains running through his house and needless to say he’s been an inspiration to me as well. Unfortunately Jim endured a few health issues within the past month and during that time I wanted to do something for him this time. I had originally planned to have this video done and uploaded weeks ago, but due to my busy work schedule and lack of any daylight by the time I got home in the evenings, the project was put on hold.
Making this video was not an easy task, and I literally had to set everything up and take everything down in the duration of an afternoon, finally finishing late into the evening. I practically used all the track I have and almost didn’t have enough curves. I am currently in the process of replacing my switches and recently sold one of 4 that I had. Because of the way my house is setup, I tend to use switches as curves sometimes to get me out of trouble. Needless to say, having that 4th switch would have made my job a little easier.
In addition to time and track issues, I’m a little disappointed in how the footage turned out. The lighting in my house isn’t the best, so some shots are a little darker than I would have preferred. On top of that my camera *coughiPhone… *coughseems to not want to pick up the sound very well, even though all my models with sound were set to full volume. Considering this issue, I honestly wish all my models had sound considering the ones that don’t make for a very quiet video. I’m still in the process of converting everything over to DCC, so sound is in the works.
Lastly, I know my track layout and video style isn’t the same as Jim’s, but I’m kind of trying to do my own thing here without looking like a YouTube copycat.
