This is the Multi-Scale model railroad layout at the Senior Center in Warm Beach, WA. It was built in a formerly open courtyard, which had been covered with a greenhouse – style roof. It is known simply as “The Train Station”.
The layout consists of a couple loops of G gauge, O scale (two-rail MTH DCS), HO scale, and N scale. A real-water waterfall is also featured (currently down for maintenance). The equipment is a wide variety of whatever has been donated to the group. Trains range from Tyco to Athearn to Broadway Limited, Bachmann to LGB to MTH. Buildings range from reused plaster Christmas village items to scratch built stick-by – stick-by pieces.
The layout was built by several residents of the Senior Center. Most have since passed on. The roof has a few leaks to be fixed, and there’s always work to be done on the trains, track, and scenery. I’ve been volunteering about one evening a week to help keep this display running. It’s not a particularly remarkable layout, yet I find it enjoyable and, well, peaceful. So far we’ve made good progress on fixing track defects and returning a number of cars and locomotives to service.
