During Christmas 2014, I shot some video of my O scale model trains running around the Christmas tree. What I set up this year is probably my biggest holiday layout so far, roughly 5 x 10 feet. There are two tracks, controlled independently of each other. The outer loop is powered by a Lionel 180-watt power brick, and controlled by Lionel’s Legacy command system and a TPC 300. The inner loop is conventionally powered and controlled by a Lionel 80-watt power brick and controller. I also bought an MTH DCS Commander, and had it hooked up on one track or the other at times.
In this video you’ll see the trains I was running on Christmas day. In the morning, I had Lionel’s Polar Express train on the inner track, and a long freight train on the outer loop, powered by a lashup of two Lionel Legacy diesels: Burlington Northern SD40-2 #7153, and BNSF SD70ACe #9380. Later in the day I switched the lashup around and had the BNSF unit leading, and changed out the train on the inner track with an O27 freight train, led by an MTH RailKing BNSF SW1500. I had this train running with MTH’s DCS Commander.
In the second part of the video, you’ll see a few of the things I received for Christmas this year, the most notable being a Milwaukee Road locomotive shed, which lights up and looks really cool! I also got a Milwaukee Road O27 boxcar (the first car on the freight train with the BNSF switcher). Both items were exclusive Menards collectibles, available online or at some of their stores. On the scale freight train, you’ll see a CB&Q double-door boxcar that I also got this year.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas!
