When you set up model trains on your patio so that a litter of 6-week-old puppies can play with them… hilarity ensues!
We’re fostering a litter of mixed-breed German Shepherd puppies for Woods Humane Society, and allowing them to spend sunny days in our back yard to enjoy the great California weather. It occurred to me that it might be fun to see them chase model trains around a track… so I made a basic oval layout on our patio, and recorded the results with my GoPro.
In this video, you can see a few of the little collisions that taught the pups to stay out of the way of the trains, and after a few hours the pups totally had it figured out and I was able to bring out a larger, more powerful train with built-in digital sound effects to see if the puppies would be even more interested in chasing that.
These puppies will be up for adoption soon, once they’ve been weaned and have reached the legal age for adoption. People in San Luis Obispo county, California, should contact Woods Humane Society if interested in adopting one of these puppies.
The model trains seen in this video are Piko-brand G-scale locomotives. The little yellow one is known at the Piko Clean Machine. It is a track cleaning locomotive that helps remove oxidation that builds up on track that is left outside for long periods of time. The steam train is a Piko model # 38212 with DCC digital sound built in to it. Both are available from Trainworld.com
