In an earlier post, I captured train number 2 heading for Chicago ( ). Using the same power and rolling stock this is the counterpart heading downgrade from Walong at the Tehachapi Loop to Magunden and on to Bakersfield.
Number 1 generally ran in the early morning over the Tehachapi Mountains with an arrival at Bakersfield some time before 8: 00 AM. Consisting of a variety of rolling stock, US Mail containers and Hi-Level chair cars along with Budd full length dome are a dead give-away as to what train it is.
Unlike Santa Fe’s other premier trains such as the El Capitan, Super Chief and Chief, this train ran on the southern portion of the Transcon via Amarillo.
All locomotives have Tsunami 2 decoders and Current Keepers.
